Secret Beach Dubai - Dubai's Hidden Coastal Gem
23.04.2025
Secret Beach Dubai is the local nickname for Al Sufouh Beach, a stretch of natural shoreline between Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab. The beach has been closed to the public since December 2023, when Dubai Municipality barricaded the entrance and the Dubai Media Office described the land as privately owned. As of October 2026, no reopening date has been announced.
The coastline itself remains visible from the sea. Our captains still sail past the same sand, palace grounds and Burj Al Arab skyline on routes from Dubai Marina and Dubai Harbour. A yacht cruise along the Al Sufouh coast is now the practical way to see the place residents once kept to themselves.
Is Secret Beach Dubai Open
Secret Beach Dubai remains closed to the public in 2026. A barrier and a security guard stand at the former entrance, and signs from Dubai Municipality state that the beach is closed temporarily. The official Visit Dubai listing marks Al Sufouh Beach as closed until further notice.
The closure covers every form of public access. Cars can no longer reach the sandy parking area, walkers cannot pass the gate, and swimmers cannot enter the water from the shore. Any guide that still describes Secret Beach as a free public beach with open parking reflects the situation before December 2023.

Closure Timeline Since December 2023
The first reports appeared on the weekend of 8 to 10 December 2023. Khaleej Times visited on Friday night, 8 December, and found the beach barricaded, with a guard explaining the closure to disappointed visitors. The National confirmed on 10 December that municipal signs had gone up at the entrance and on the road.
In the same week, the Dubai Media Office answered a press query by calling the area a privately owned beach. That statement remains the only official explanation on record.
The status has not changed through 2024, 2025 and 2026. Beach guides updated in May and July 2026 still report a closed gate, and no verified announcement about public access has followed. An earlier change came in 2020, when Dubai Municipality asked caravan owners who had camped on the Sufouh site to leave and wait for a new designated campsite.
Why the Beach Was Closed to the Public
The stated reason concerns ownership. The sand lies in front of royal palace grounds in Al Sufouh, and the Dubai Media Office classified the plot as private land. Public use had therefore depended on informal access for years.
No official source has described future plans for the plot. Online claims about a resort, a residential project or a new beach club remain unconfirmed, and we do not repeat them as fact. Until Dubai authorities publish a decision, the only reliable information is that the land is private and the gate is shut.
What Visitors Find at the Entrance Today
Drivers who follow old map pins arrive at a closed barrier on the service road. A guard on duty turns cars away, and the notice board repeats the temporary closure message.
Visitors who come for the Burj Al Arab sunset view have two options. They can head to a public beach in Umm Suqeim or Jumeirah. They can also see the Al Sufouh shoreline from a boat offshore, which keeps the original view and respects the closed land.
What Secret Beach Dubai Is and How It Got Its Name
Residents gave the Al Sufouh shoreline the name Secret Beach because no signage on the main road indicated its location. A narrow sandy track ran between palace walls and a line of palm trees, and first-time visitors regularly missed the turn. Below, we explain the other names attached to the same sand and what drew people there before the closure.
Other Names for the Same Shoreline
One beach carries several names. Al Sufouh Beach comes from the district, and Black Palace Beach refers to the royal palaces behind the sand. Hidden Beach works as a variant of the Secret Beach nickname. Khaleej Times and Visit Dubai both use these names for the same location.
The search term hidden beach Dubai can still cause confusion. Some beach guides use Hidden Beach for a separate, quiet stretch elsewhere on the Jumeirah coast, sometimes also called Sunrise Beach. Before planning a visit, travelers who find a Hidden Beach pin should check that it sits in Al Sufouh, between Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab.
What Set It Apart From Other Beaches in Dubai
Secret Beach had no restaurants, no paid loungers and no showers. Visitors brought their own shade, drinking water and food, parked on firm sand about 100 meters from the shoreline, and swam under the watch of municipal lifeguard towers.
The panorama explained most of its popularity. Burj Al Arab stood to the right of the shore, while the trunk and fronds of Palm Jumeirah filled the horizon to the left. The water stayed clear and calm on most days, and swimmers occasionally reported sea turtles beyond the buoy line.
The audience consisted mostly of people living in Dubai. Expat residents used the beach for morning swims, weekend picnics and evening meetups, while tour buses and organized groups rarely stopped there. Weekday mornings were quiet, and weekend evenings drew large numbers of cars.
Secret Beach Dubai Location
Secret Beach Dubai sits in the Al Sufouh district, on the coast between the base of Palm Jumeirah and the Madinat Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab area. The former entrance lies off King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street, formerly Al Sufouh Road, near Knowledge Village. The subsections below cover its position, the old road access and its distance from yacht departure points.
Position Between Palm Jumeirah and Burj Al Arab
The beach faces the Arabian Gulf on the eastern side of the Palm Jumeirah trunk. From the waterline, Burj Al Arab appears to the northeast and Palm Jumeirah to the west, with the outer crescent visible offshore.
By road, the former entrance lies roughly 6 kilometers from Dubai Marina, a drive of about 10 to 15 minutes in normal traffic. Knowledge Village lies nearby on the inland side of the main road, and the palace grounds occupy the land directly behind the sand.
Road Access Before the Closure
Before December 2023, visitors drove along Al Sufouh Road and looked for a gap in the roadside landscaping that led onto a sandy track. The track ended at an informal parking area on firm sand, a short walk from the water.
Visitors without a car took a taxi and asked for Al Sufouh Beach or Black Palace Beach, since many drivers did not know the Secret Beach nickname. A bus stop on the main road sat about 400 meters from the entrance. None of these routes leads to the beach now, because the track ends at the closed barrier.
Distance From Dubai Marina and Dubai Harbour by Sea
The sea route to the Al Sufouh coast is longer than the road distance. The Palm Jumeirah trunk blocks the direct line along the shore. A yacht leaving from the west side of the Palm sails around the outer crescent before turning toward Al Sufouh and Burj Al Arab.
Dubai Harbour sits at the western base of Palm Jumeirah, which makes it the closer of the two main departure points. Yachts leaving Dubai Marina first pass the JBR waterfront and Bluewaters Island before joining the same route around the crescent. For scale, speedboat sightseeing loops that cover Dubai Marina, the Palm and Burj Al Arab usually run about 90 minutes. A motor yacht at cruising speed needs more time for the same loop.

How to See Secret Beach Dubai From the Water
A private yacht offers the one remaining way to see the Secret Beach shoreline up close. Charter boats pass the Al Sufouh coast on regular sightseeing routes, while the sand behind the waterline remains private. At CharterClick, our captains include this stretch of coast in routes from Dubai Marina and Dubai Harbour and keep the yacht offshore at all times.
Cruise Route Along the Al Sufouh Coastline
The standard itinerary connects the principal landmarks of the Dubai coastline in one loop. Our captains usually follow this sequence, and guests can modify the stops before or during the charter.
- Departure from a berth in Dubai Marina or Dubai Harbour, with the skyline of the marina towers behind the yacht.
- Passage along the JBR waterfront and past Bluewaters Island for yachts leaving Dubai Marina.
- A run along the outside of the Palm Jumeirah crescent, with Atlantis The Palm at its center.
- A turn east toward the Al Sufouh shoreline, where the former Secret Beach and the palace grounds come into view.
- An approach to Burj Al Arab and Madinat Jumeirah, the usual point for photos and a swim stop.
- Return to the departure marina along the same coast or around the outer crescent.
Guests who remember the beach from the land often comment on how different it looks from the sea. The full length of sand comes into view at once, with the palace grounds and palm lines behind it, a view that was never available from the parking area.
Swimming Stops at Sea and Rules on Shore Landing
Swim stops take place in open water. The captain selects a location after checking depth, boat traffic and sea conditions, and guests enter the water from the swim platform or ladder at the stern. Life jackets are on board every yacht, and the crew keeps watch while guests are in the water.
Landing on the former Secret Beach is not allowed. The sand belongs to a private owner, so guests may not swim ashore or use a tender to reach it, and our crews do not anchor for that purpose. The yacht stays offshore, and the swim stop happens in the sea.
Our captains do not run swim stops after sunset. Guests who plan a swim should book a departure that leaves enough daylight for the stop, then continue the cruise for the evening view.
Best Time of Day for the Coastline View
Morning cruises offer the calmest water and the clearest visibility of the sand. The Gulf frequently stays flat before late morning, and the light falls evenly on the palace grounds and the Burj Al Arab facade.
Late afternoon brings warm light and the sunset over the open sea. In Dubai, the sun sets around 5:30 pm in December and around 7:10 pm in June. A departure about two hours before sunset leaves time for the passage, a daylight swim stop and the evening view of Burj Al Arab on the return.
Charter Duration and Yacht Size for This Route
A 2-hour charter covers the Palm crescent and a short look at Burj Al Arab, but it leaves little time near the Al Sufouh coast. For the full route with a swim stop, we recommend 3 to 4 hours. Charters of 6 hours or longer allow additional stops along the coast and a slower return at sunset.
The CharterClick fleet for yacht rental in Dubai includes 19 yachts from 30 to 118 feet, carrying from 8 to 130 guests. Cruisers of 30 to 36 feet suit couples and groups of up to 10. Yachts of 46 to 71 feet carry 12 to 50 guests and offer more deck space and an indoor salon. Vessels from 85 to 118 feet take up to 130 guests for celebrations and corporate groups.
Every charter includes a captain and crew, fuel, safety equipment, drinking water and an icebox. Guests choose the route and stop points, and several guests in our reviews mention captains adjusting the itinerary on the spot to the places they wanted to see.
Public Beaches in Dubai That Replace Secret Beach
Several public beaches in Dubai remain open in 2026 and cover what visitors once found at Secret Beach. None of them repeats its undeveloped character exactly. The right choice depends on what a visitor wants most, whether that means the Burj Al Arab view, quiet sand, evening swimming or full facilities. Dubai Municipality is upgrading several beaches, including a master plan for Umm Suqeim Beach approved in February 2026, so it pays to check signs on arrival. Public beaches also follow local rules on swimwear and cover-ups, which we explain in our Dubai beach dress code guide.
Sunset Beach Umm Suqeim
Sunset Beach sits directly beside Burj Al Arab in Umm Suqeim 3 and offers the closest public view of the hotel. Access is free, lifeguards are on duty, and the facilities stay basic, with showers, restrooms and public parking. Visitors who came to Secret Beach for the skyline photo will find the same subject here, seen from a different angle and with more people around.
Kite Beach
Kite Beach in Umm Suqeim 1 draws the most active crowd of any public beach in the city. A running track runs along the sand, food outlets and trucks line the promenade, and rentals include kayaks, paddleboards and kitesurfing equipment. Showers and changing areas are available, and parking is paid.
Jumeirah Beach 1
Jumeirah Beach 1 reopened in February 2026 after Dubai Municipality redeveloped a 1,400-meter stretch and enlarged the beach by about 50 percent. The new layout includes jogging and cycling tracks, shaded seating and improved access points. Residents describe it as calmer than Kite Beach or JBR, partly because no road runs along the shoreline.
Night Swimming Beaches in Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1
Three Dubai public beaches are lit and open for swimming after dark, in Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1. According to Dubai Municipality, they received about 1.5 million visitors in their first 18 months. For residents who used Secret Beach for evening swims, these beaches are the closest substitute, with lighting and supervision that the old beach never had.
JBR Beach
JBR Beach runs along the Jumeirah Beach Residence waterfront next to Dubai Marina. It draws the largest crowds of any public beach in the city and offers lifeguards, showers, changing rooms, sports areas and restaurants along The Walk. The atmosphere differs completely from Secret Beach, but access is the easiest of any beach on this list.
Combining a Public Beach Day With a Yacht Charter
Public beaches and yacht charters combine easily within a single day. JBR Beach lies a short walk from the yacht berths in Dubai Marina. A morning on the sand can end with an afternoon departure toward Palm Jumeirah and the Al Sufouh coast.
The same route also links the other beaches on this list. From the water, guests see Sunset Beach, Burj Al Arab, the Umm Suqeim shoreline and the former Secret Beach in one cruise. The route also covers parts of the coast that no public beach can reach. When booking, guests can tell us which beach they plan to visit, and we suggest a departure point and time that fit the day.

Planning a Coastal Trip by Season
October to April is the comfortable season for beach days and open-deck cruising in Dubai. From June to September, heat and humidity shift both activities to early morning and evening. The subsections below show how the season changes the plan for a cruise past the Secret Beach coast.
Cooler Months From October to April
Daytime highs from November to March usually range from about 24 to 30 degrees Celsius, and the sea stays between roughly 21 and 27 degrees. These conditions suit long swim stops, sundeck time and midday departures.
Demand rises in the same months, and weekends, the December holidays and New Year's Eve fill yacht calendars early. Guests who want a specific yacht or a sunset slot should book a yacht several weeks ahead. October and April work well for travelers who prefer quieter marinas and still want warm water.
Summer Heat and Evening Departures
From June to September, air temperatures in Dubai often pass 40 degrees Celsius with high humidity, and the sea warms to around 32 degrees. A swim offers little cooling at midday, and open decks heat up quickly.
Summer charters work best as early morning cruises that return before noon or as late afternoon departures timed for sunset. Larger yachts with an air-conditioned salon and a shaded deck keep guests comfortable during the passage around the Palm. The evening view of Burj Al Arab from the Al Sufouh coast stays the same in every season.
